Between Heaven and Asphalt

Natchitoches, Louisiana

After torrential rain moved through downtown Natchitoches, the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception appeared suspended for a brief moment—floating in a reflection that only existed until the water disappeared and the street returned to itself.

Most people would have seen a puddle and kept walking.

I saw a shift.

This photograph is a reminder that sometimes the scene doesn’t change. The perspective does. A few inches lower. A different angle. A willingness to stop and really look can turn the familiar into something entirely new.

Captured in the quiet hours after the storm, Between Heaven and Asphalt exists at the intersection of brick, water, light, and timing—a fleeting moment where the ordinary gave way to something unexpected.

Limited Edition Print - 8×12 with 2in border (12×16 overall) - Printed on archival white matte paper with archival Canon Lucia inks.

Photographed in Natchitoches, Louisiana by Jesse D. Poole.
